Water Garden

I created a small water garden last year. Today, I cleaned out a ton of algae that had accumulated in it. I also pulled a bunch of fallen leaves out. I think the decaying leaves caused the algae overgrowth. I repotted the native pitcher plant (Serracenia 'Scarlet Bell') to give it more soil and to contain it's soil in a sturdy pot. I cut the plastic nusery pot partially off of the other corkscrew-like reedy plant to let it's massive roots have more space. Its roots had really grown!
Here is the end result! I hope it will stay clear of algea for at least a little while. I used a magic eraser to scrub algae off the tub. A scrubbing brush would have worked better, but I didn't have one on hand. I hope to get a small barley filter and pump for this little water garden to help prevent algae from growing in it again. I couldn't get all of the algae out, so it might grow back pretty quickly and I might have to clean this all over again.

I was very pleased to see that the pitcher plant was still alive and had survived the winter.

A cute skink was hanging out on the sunny deck as I worked on the water garden today. They didn't run away, so I was able to get a picture:
I love native animals! 💚
