Welcome
Hello and welcome to my new blog! I spend a lot of time with my hands in the soil of my vegetable gardens, watering and caring for my many houseplants, planting many native plants for native wildlife to enjoy and removing invasive plants from the land around my house.
I live in a house on ten acres of beautiful woodland in USDA zone 7a. I love this land. I am Pagan, so I have a deep religious connection to the Earth. My political views are that this land is the land of Indigenous Powhatan people, so even though my husband and I own the land and the house (or at least we have a mortgage which we are paying to the bank), I don't usually refer to this ten acres as "my property". I am the decendant of white settlers who colonized the so-called US. I have philosophical beliefs that plants and animals deserve much more respect than they are usually given these days and that the balance of the ecosystem is of utmost importance. I am a conservationist who gardens to live sustainability in harmony with nature and to promote the existence of native species.
Gardening is a hobby that I have gotten into over the past few years, but I grew up in this state and I spent much of my life outside surrounded by wild flora and fauna. I am learning to identify the plants that grow wild here and I'm growing and preparing my own vegetables. Another hobby I will cover in this blog is foraging for edible plants. Although I am definitely not an expert or a professional, I hope to share what I am learning in this blog.
This blog will also be a nice way to document the work that I do with plants. 🌱
